ENHANCING THE PUPILS’ MOTIVATION

TO LEARN THROUGH PROJECT WORK

Techniques of active learning are very useful in enhancing the motivation to learn. Projects are one of such techniques. The project work not only provide opportunities to the pupils for disclosing their creative individuality, experimenting, investigating, integrating of acquired knowledge into other subjects, working individually and in group (team) at his own pace but also teach to persistently pursue one’s aims, therefore enhances the pupils’ motivation to learn. When carrying out the project, a pupil develops his intellect, learns to independently gather information and use educational literature and reference books, acquires skills of individual studying, and experiences the joy and satisfaction at attaining his object.

 

“After hearing, I forgot,

After seeing, I remember,

After doing, I learned.”

This Chinese proverb describes very precisely the essence of the technique of project work.

 

The advantages of the technique of project work are highlighted in this essay. The notion “project work” is discussed and project types and objectives are specified.

 

The essay describes the structure and all stages of the project. The results of a survey of pupils and recommendations to teachers who employ the project technique in teaching process are provided.

 

This work also describes the structure of description of the project.

 

The following 3 examples of projects carried out by pupils are provided:
