TOPIC: MANUFACTURING OF SPATIAL AND PLANE FIGURES

and 11th class pupils and their parents, teachers of mathematics and
drawing
Problem: Limited choice of
mathematical models and visual aids
Purpose and objectives of the
work:
- Adding new visual aids to the stock of aids in
mathematics rooms,
- Stimulating the pupils interest in geometry,
- Teaching to distinguish between geometrical figures
by other methods,
- Demonstrating and disclosing the working power of
pupils,
- Demonstrating the application of theoretical
knowledge to practice,
- Training of skills of economical approach, when
using waste material for manufacturing of aids.
Working groups:
- Gathering of information
- Drawing of pictures
- Preparation of drawings
- Manufacturing of models
- Calculation of cost
Sources:
- Results of a survey of teachers and parents,
- Material for manufacturing of models (support of
parents),
- Work with a welding apparatus,
- Material resources (how to earn funds for acquiring
aids),
- Shops and private entities where it is possible to
get metal and wood waste.
The pupils learned:
- to draw various figures,
- to measure and construct by
drawings,
- to gather information in direct
co-operation with teachers,
- to draw up a working plan,
- to evaluate in terms of monies
their own work and that of colleagues,
- they obtained basic skills of
enterprising.
Presentation form: Exhibition.
The results were exhibited at the
Project Exhibition during the Open-door Week in our school.
New concepts and perspective
plans: Involving more pupils into the process of manufacturing of visual aids,
partially of industrial wastes.
