SUMMARY

The present project is aimed at developing skills to employ, generalise, perceive connections of and draw conclusions from theoretical knowledge and research data.

Considering that the quality human condition depends on physical and social conditions and way of living, the Žemyna High School of Vilnius joined the network of schools for strengthening of health and started implementing the programme for strengthening of health. This programme covers variuos directions of activity: programmes regarding the family, school community, health care, after-school activities and training in subjects.

The objective of the project is to integrate the health strengthening programme in  biology, mathematics and information technology programmes.

When people acquire bad habits, it hampers their development, affect health, impede work activities, and shorten their lifespan.

When lecturing in biology on habits, my analysis concerning bad and good aspects of habits was very successful. Following this stage, it was appropriate to integrate the healthy lifestyle programme. After collecting data from variuos sources about smoking and its harm to health, pupils have formed the following hypothesis during lessons: the age of smokers show tendency to more younger, number of smoking young people is on increase, preconditions for drug addiction are being formed, and the risk of health damage is increasing.

The pupils have carried out a research in the Žemyna High School using active methods employed during lessons in biology, mathematics and information technologies: interrogatory, observation, collecting, analysing and processing of statistical data, and presenting data using information technologies (presentation of project results, tables and charts on a website).

The project objectives were successfully achieved because the topic is relevant, the research was carried out by the pupils themselves, and they used efficient means for analysis, processing of data and presentation of results. For the pupils, it was an interesting task as they were able in short time to analyse results and formulate conclusions, and subsequently they put the project data on the website, where they also discussed the matter suggesting how to get rid of the smoking addiction.
